Abstract

A long Poem as a genre is not merely a long poem. It is a deliberate literary form that sustains vision, blends modes, and addresses themes that require time, space and scale to unfold. It sits at the intersection of epic, lyric and narrative traditions, while also allowing for modern experimental approaches. Farrukh Yar’s long poem ‘Karaiz’ is, as the title of the poem suggests, an archive of history and identity, where the hidden water channels become metaphors for suppressed cultural memory, resilience, and resistance against the erasure of a postmodern world. The long poem form mirrors the Karaiz itself: a subterranean structure connecting fragments of collective experiences into a flowing though concealed, cultural continuity. This article presents a thematic & stylistic study of the long poem ‘Karaiz’ in the context of cultural poetics.
