This study investigates the interview-related content published during the first phase of the distinguished Urdu literary journal Adabi Dunya and evaluates its contribution to the evolution of Urdu interview writing. The research reveals that the journal, under the visionary editorship of Tajwar Najibabadi and later Salahuddin Ahmad and Mansoor Ahmad, played a pivotal role in introducing and popularising diverse interview forms in Urdu literary journalism. Through textual and analytical examination of the journal’s early issues, the study identifies a wide range of interview practices, including formal interviews, translated interviews, biographical conversations, thematic dialogues, and imaginative interview-based literary discourses. Regular sections such as “Aaina-e-Alam,” “Khawateen ka Hissa,” and “Akhbar-e-Ilmiya” facilitated the transmission of international intellectual, social, and literary perspectives to Urdu readers. The article further highlights the significance of Mansoor Ahmad’s editorial initiatives, particularly his interview with Agha Hashar Kashmiri and the publication of imaginative dialogic pieces that transformed interview writing into a vehicle of literary criticism and intellectual inquiry. The study concludes that Adabi Dunya substantially expanded the thematic, structural, and critical dimensions of Urdu interview writing, thereby establishing an enduring foundation for the development of modern interview literature in Urdu.
