The Impacts of Media in Postmodern Pakistani Fiction

Abstract

Means of Communication refer to all the sources through which we convey our message to others. In Urdu it is called Zaraye Iblagh while in English, it is referred to as Media meaning source and Medium. Media is an undeniable reality of the modern era. While it has brought numerous benefits to human lives, it has also caused significant drawbacks. Urdu fiction writers have addressed these drawbacks in their stories. In this research paper, the researcher has highlighted that postmodern Pakistani fiction portrays issues such as the erosion of moral values, the invasion of Western culture, restlessness, sensationalism, religious and sectarian divisions, and identity crises. The study also proves that media distorts reality, influences public opinion, and promotes cultural anxiety while shaping narratives, identities, and social constructs. In short, postmodern Pakistani fiction reflects the illusions and complexities created by media in the contemporary era.
