Annemarie Schimmel (7 April 1922-26 January 2003) is renowned as a prominent scholar of Iqbal and is also counted among Rumi's scholars. The subject of her major works is Sufism. This is also a reference to her interest in the civilisation and culture of Sindh. While narrating this love story, she has also extensively described the characteristics of Sufism. She has also repeatedly quoted the writings of Sufis like Imam Ghazali, Maulana Rumi, Mansoor Hallaj and Shah Abdul Latif. The author has skillfully made topics like Sufism, the path of conduct, the stages of self-control, the heat of love and the devotion to unity in the context of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai's poetry. In her work on Sindhi folk literature titled “My Soul is a Woman”, she has explained the rights of women in the context of feminism in Islam in an argumentative manner.
